A few interesting things about the life in Shrewsbury:
Sculptures
Monuments
Bridges
Taking photos
Shrewsbury is a small historic town on the border of Wales and England. I was about to travel to North Wales when I decided to do a short stop to see what the city looks like. But then, please see the pictures below, I decided that a couple of hours for me to spend there would not be enough. I was right. Shrewsbury is a wonderful, quiet and cosy town with the old architecture, beautiful gardens, majestic cathedrals and numerous bridges across the River Severn. It is the city in which you should not to run, just keep walking and enjoy the scenery. My friends have never been to this city, so on my return to Telford, I described it to the locals.
Shrewsbury is perfect to make getaway on the weekend! Shrewsbury. The life here is just great. When you come to town, you see a great old station. Shrewsbury is well preserved in terms of the historical city centre, as it was hardly affected during the World War II, and it did not require any alteration. As I was told, the curvature and asymmetry of the classic old English houses come into being due to the fact that they were periodically completed and built without their architectural features.
In central "market" area of the city is the monument of Robert Clive, formerly mayor of the city and the general who created the "British India" in South Asia. Old Market Hall in Shrewsbury is in the shape of the horseshoe and bends around the river Severn. Almost all round the town goes along the river with many old broken pathways. It is a perfect place for a stroll.
There are quite a few more very interesting sculptures in the city. On the opposite side of the Welsh Bridge, to the east of the city, there is a bridge called the English Bridge. Next to the public library is a monument of Charles Darwin, who, by the way, was born in Shrewsbury. Unfortunately, I could not take pictures of other important figures and places, like that one of St. Chad's Cathedral, which is currently under renovation and covered with scaffolding.
Of course there is a beautiful castle of Shrewsbury. Unfortunately for me that day it was corny closed and from the outside it did not work for me so I could not take any photos. I think there was an office removals from Halifax doing some work. But I managed to sea many churches and cathedrals. The pictures of them will continue to go one by one, so if you are an atheist and you are not interested, feel free to rewind the page to the end of the post.
Perhaps one of the most beautiful cathedrals is Roman Catholic Diocese Of Shrewsbury. This church (St. Mary's) I remember because inside of it there was a charity event, a fair or sale. In general, the church had many mobile hangers with some clothes, and dozens of women of all ages bustled around them. Well, finally, a frame that I just love. :) In summary, I will say this: if you live in central England, and you have a free weekend, I highly recommend to spend it in Shrewsbury!
